I am pleased and humbled to begin my tenure as Under Secretary for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Asked by Secretary Wilbur L. Ross and nominated by President Trump, I am deeply honored to help make America more competitive, serve my fellow Americans, and give back to our country, which has given so much to me.
As a business woman with more than 35 years of experience in the financial markets and 28 of them at a major global finance firm, I know how to manage personnel, strategy, budgets, operations, public relations and thought leadership across the globe. I look forward to bringing this expertise to the Department. Additionally, a big part of my career as a finance professional has been devoted to using and relying on the valuable statistics the Department produces. I respect Commerce's vast data, its integrity, and the institutions that create it.
I am excited to work with Secretary Ross to transform strategic initiatives into tactical actions that support the President's economic priorities, particularly in the areas of job creation, and free and fair trade. Equally important, I will focus on effective, meaningful management and oversight of the 2020 Census as well as the Commerce Department's broad statistical programs that provide useful economic data supporting many sectors of the economy. I will also work with Secretary Ross to bolster partnerships and bring together people from across the federal government to support the Department's mission.
As I get down to work, I look forward to working with the dedicated team here at the Department to serve the American people.
