Washington, D.C. – Justin Antonipillai, Counselor to Secretary Penny Pritzker, with the Delegated Duties of Under Secretary for Economic Affairs, will provide welcome and opening remarks at The Opportunity Project White House Demos Event.
Since taking office, President Obama has focused on expanding access to opportunity for all Americans, and has also prioritized making government data open and accessible. On Thursday, October 6, the White House will host an event to announce 29 new digital tools created by non-profits, companies, and students through the Administration’s Opportunity Project. These tech teams created tools for individuals, families, community leaders, and local officials in response to high priority challenges identified by several federal agencies. The event will feature tech demos from the teams that built the tools and remarks from Administration, public, and private-sector speakers.
Launched earlier this year, the Opportunity Project and opportunity.census.gov provide a process and resources for non-governmental entities to use federal and local data to build tools that help families, community leaders, service providers and local officials navigate and visualize information about neighborhood level opportunities, like access to jobs, affordable housing and good schools. Prior to this rollout, 14 digital tools were created through the Opportunity Project.
